Tread Lightly Grant Program

Postby oregonsage » Thu Oct 29, 2015 10:42 am

Tread Lightly!, a national organization dedicated to educating the recreating public on outdoors ethics and protecting motorized off-road recreation, is offering to fund 25 stewardship projects intended to keep natural resources healthy, accessible and open to the public.

The funding, called the “25 Restoration for Recreation” project, is part of the nonprofit’s 25th anniversary, which was celebrated by Tread Lightly!’s board, staff, leadership and partners recently in Washington, DC.

At that event, Wayne Allard, AMA vice president for government relations, accepted a founding member award on behalf of the AMA. It is our hope that many AMA members will submit applications for grants to restore or enhance their favorite trails.

Type of projects: Priority will be given to projects on public lands or waters that protect hunting, fishing, recreational shooting and motorized vehicle access. This could include, but is not limited to, a public lands clean-up, restoration or maintenance of an OHV trail or staging area, posting of educational signage, outdoor recreation stewardship events, and maintenance of recreation infrastructure.

When: Requests for funding and supporting material must be received by 7 p.m. (EST) Dec. 1. Projects must be completed by June 2016.

How Much: Maximum funding possible is $2,000. Tread Lightly! will provide 50 percent of the award up front. The final payment will be issued upon receipt of a complete project report and other requested documentation.

Who: This campaign is made possible thanks to the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative, Federal Premium Ammunition, Bushnell and Dallas Safari Club.

Now more than ever, it is crucial that you and your riding friends become members of the AMA to help us protect our riding freedoms. More members mean more clout against the opponents of motorcycling, and your support will help the AMA fight for your rights – on the road, trail, racetrack, and in the halls of government. To join, go to To encourage your friends to join, tell them about the many AMA benefits you appreciate and forward the link to them.

Thank you in advance for submitting a grant application. If you do submit an application, please email a copy to the AMA at
