The American Motorcyclist Association believes you may be interested in applying to serve on a BLM Resource Advisory Committee. The Bureau of Land Management has published a notice in accordance with the Federal Land Policy and Management Act and the Federal Advisory Committee Act that gives notice that the Secretary of the Interior is establishing the Southwest Oregon Resource Advisory Council, the Northwest Oregon RAC, and the Coastal Oregon RAC. These RACs will provide advice to the Secretary of the Interior concerning the planning and management of the public lands located in western Oregon's five BLM districts.

The committees consist of 10 - 15 members and provide advice and recommendations to the BLM on land use planning and management of the National System of Public Lands within their respective geographic areas. RAC members represent a wide range of interests.

Each member is assigned to one of three categories:

Category One--Holders of Federal grazing permits and representatives of organizations associated with energy and mineral development, timber industry, transportation or rights-of-way, developed outdoor recreation, off-highway vehicle use, and commercial recreation

Category Two--Representatives of nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations, archaeological and historic organizations, dispersed recreation activities, and wild horse and burro organizations

Category Three--Representatives of State, county, or local elected office, employees of a State agency responsible for management of natural resources, representatives of Indian tribes within or adjacent to the area for which the council is organized, representatives of academia who are employed in natural sciences, and the public-at-large.

Members will be appointed to staggered 3-year terms. All members serve at the discretion of the Secretary. A call for nominations to recruit new members will be held in 2015 once the RACs are established.

More information on the specific openings and the application process can be found in the Federal Register Notice.

Simultaneous with this notice, BLM state offices will issue press releases providing additional information for submitting nominations, with specifics about the number and categories of member positions available for each RAC in the state and the Steens Mountain Advisory Council in Oregon.

Please join the AMA to help us fight efforts to end responsible motorized recreation. More members means more clout against our opponents, and your support will help the AMA fight for your rights – on the road, trail, racetrack, and in the halls of government. To join, go to AmericanMotorcyclist.com/membership/join.

Thank you in advance for applying. If you apply, please email the AMA at grassroots@ama-cycle.org.
