FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MAJOR MEDIA DISTRIBUTION

Contact: Tony Andersen, 503-507-4481, tandersen@odf.state.or.us

As the Board of Forestry looks at new ways to manage state forests and showcase conservation areas on state-owned forestlands, the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) invites communities to pull up a seat and get involved in the forestry conversation.

In the coming 30 days, ODF will host a series of events to share information, capture input, and facilitate conversations outside formal hearing settings.

The first series highlight the Alternative Forest Management Plan (AFMP) process through roundtable information sessions. These sessions include a brief presentation by ODF staff, time for questions and clarification, and an open forum for public input and comments.

Details:
February 26: Astoria: 3-4:30pm, Clatsop Comm. College, 1651 Lexington Ave, Toller Hall, Room 306
February 27: Tillamook: 6-8pm, Tillamook Comm. College, 4301 3rd Street, Room 214/215
March 3: Forest Grove: 6-8pm, Forest Grove Library, 2114 Pacific Ave.
March 6: Lyons: 6-8pm, 22965 North Fork Road SE

The second series are open houses showcasing conservation on state-owned lands. The community is invited to learn more about high value conservation areas (HVCAs) and their locations through interactive Google Earth maps, a self-guided tour route, and opportunities to learn more about how these areas are managed over time. HVCA open houses kick off the HVCA and Annual Operations Plan (AOP) comment period from March 17 through May 2, 2014. Laptops will be available to submit online comments.

Details:
March 17: Forest Grove ODF District Office: 6-8pm, 801 Gales Creek Road, Forest Grove
March 20: Astoria ODF District Office: 6-8pm, 92219 Hwy 202, Astoria
March 22: Tillamook District Office: 10am-noon, 5005 3rd Street, Tillamook

I plan on being there. Anyone else going? These are very important for public input, as these HVCAs will close us out of riding these locations.

While I'm unable to get to any of the meetings listed above, I found the original website where I can send my "comment" for their consideration.

Just go to the bottom of the page and click on the comment button. The link will take you to a survey monkey that takes about 2 minutes to tell them you want more OHV trails. Not as good as going to a meeting, but hopefully EVERYONE reading this will find 2 minutes to help keep our trails open.
