Is this still a go or is if affected by the Forrest fire?
I looked on hood river county Web sure and everything appears to be good to go but I know there its a forest fire 10 miles south of hood river witch is only a few miles south easy of kingsly Res.

Not even any smoke here, the riding is great. Sorry for the slow reply, been working here in the event and barely have service for Internet. Hope to see you Sunday.

Here is my take.

We have never ridden Hood River area before so we made plans to attend the Sunday Poker Run.

3hr drive from Bend WTH we left at 6:15 and were there just after 9:00.

Signed in and were headed out. I did however grab a map just in case.

One of the riders in front of us was getting the trail marking directions so I was listening in. There was the typical Orange arrow but was an option in some sections to take the Expert loop.

Since this was my sons second time riding in the Woods (first was McCubbins in the rain. Bad very bad) I told him we would only be riding the standard course. (didn't want to ruin him on a technical section)

Don't get me wrong there were some very technical sections to be ridden. Hell there was even a double black expert (hey that's what the sign said) long rocky uphill that just wasn't going to happen for him. So we headed to the bottom and I pulled out the map. For those of you who have ridden over in Central Oregon. Why is it the Valley trail systems are marked so poorly? I love McCubbins I think it is 86 or 86A or 86B or 86C or whatever it is. Especially when you head down one and it turns into three trails which none of them are marked. I somewhat figured our where we were at and took a jeep rode that was trail marked but not on the map to bypass the hill and rejoin the trail at the top. We were not alone at this point we had a couple other riders join us experiencing the same situation.

We were back on the trail and all was good. They did run us thru a Huge rock section. Carl's dinner came to mind but the rocks were much smaller of course.

All in all we had a great time. My son learned lots of valuable lessons to make him a better rider. It was a great refresher for me. I'm sick I love that kind of stuff. He hates the fact that I have a auto clutch and he doesn't ( I tell him I put my time in with a clutch and prove it whenever I need to get his bike up a hill he can't haha)

Thank you to the LOBOS and whoever else was involved in putting on this event.

It was fun, my riding bud who did the rock section and got a joker was wondering why though he didn't get to pick off the swag table? I personally would not of went through it. Nice 1st place plaque James. Wish the turn out was more. Good ride and thanks, enjoyed the new track in the woods.

The Joker mark was to keep track of how many actually went through, glad you guys had fun. I was afraid I went overboard this year but sounds like everyone enjoyed themselves or felt really good for making it through. Wish I could've been at the finish but had to pull course. Had a blast putting it on and have to thank Motocross Direct in Canby and Trail Tech for sponsoring the event.

Thanks edgy I really enjoyed the course, other than a few transfer sections on the gravel (to get around ascribe logging sites) it was all trail. in the trees the dirt was perfect dirt and you could really twist the throttle. Lots of dry slick silt in the clear cuts  and then there was the typical hood river rocks :ride
That up hill gave allot of people problems I even bobbled on it pretty good.
Loose silt and bowling ball sized rocks on a 35% grade what's the problem :D
Then it was back into single track and 2 track over to the friggin Rubicon rock trail,
Then I took the joker trail. That was gnarly and anyone who rode through there and got the joker written on the tag knows what I am talking a about. I only saw myself and one other tag that had it on there.
think Carls diner at erzburg  there were course workers there marking tags and taking pictures I would love a copy of my pics .
All in it was a good day with lots of varried terrain and a good course lay out thanks to lobos and everyone who helped put it all together, see you at the lone wolf.

Yeah that uphill was somewhat of a problem with my old TT, couldn't get any good traction in the deep silt in the corners for any momentum up the rocky chutes. Made it once got into the rocks for traction, a knob that could dig would have been better there and out in clearcuts. Still can't complain for a tire that has 1200mi or so on it. The Michelin X-11 tubeless radial is just flat awesome, even mostly worn out. :D

I did the Saturday poker run and wonder if the trails used were the same. I had terrible trouble getting up a steep climb, I think the trail was #160, up a bare ridge with tons of rock step ups, soccer ball sized boulders and deep dust. Took me 35 minutes and 2 tip overs and 2 more stalls to get up that rotten slope. :) I wasn't the only one either, a few riders passed me and all were having trouble and a couple went down once or twice. I made it back alive though, so in spite of the sore muscles, had a good time surviving! The sweep rider seemed glad to see me back at camp; he didn't have to haul my broker rear down off the mountain. Thanks Lobos!

IM not sure the knobby helped much :D
I ran a m12 rear and Mx 51 out Front
High speed I'm the clear cut was sketchy at best it seamed more like a formula drift rally than a poker run at times but it was still alot of fun.
