Hood River Area Work Party - June 21, 2014

Postby Tawmass » Wed Jun 18, 2014 7:24 am

For those technically inclined, the GPS coordinates of the parking area is: N45 38.109 W121 38.667

Everyone:

Hood River County will be holding a trail work party to reconstruct a section of trail 185L that was recently obliterated with a timber harvest operation. The trail route has been flagged and some of the debris has already been removed from the new trail corridor. The new route will be much improved over the one that was obliterated!

Date: Saturday June 21, 2014.

Time: Start time is 9:00am. Work party will end at approximately 1:00pm.

Place to Meet: Meet at the junction of Kingsley Road and Forest Road 2600 (by the 2nd green gate on the left as you head up the hill toward Kingsley Reservoir Staging Area). Late arrivals can walk across Kingsley Road and go a short distance to the north and east to find the work party. This section of trail 185L parallels Kingsley Road.

Map: Two maps are attached; 1) The highlighted route to drive from I-84 to the work party site and 2) A detailed view of the work party location.

Work Party Leader: Douglas Johnson will lead the work party. He may be contacted at (541) 490-6563.

Tools: Hand tools will be provided but you are welcome to bring tools of your own.

Bring: Coffee J, Work clothes, rain gear (just in case), work gloves, sturdy boots, safety glasses, hat, water, lunch/snacks, etc.! Be prepared for some hard work, some easy work, and lots of fun! Maybe your motorcycle, ATV, Bicycle, or Horse for a ride after the work party is over!

Volunteer Hours: Your volunteer hours will be documented and will help satisfy requirements for the County’s current Oregon Parks and Recreation Department ATV Operations and Maintenance grant. This will be a big help for Hood River County and make our trail system much better for users.

Directions to the Trail Work Party Area: From I-84 eastbound take Exit 62. Turn right onto Oak Street. Travel approximately 300 feet and make a right turn onto Country Club Road. Drive for ~6.1 miles. Drive through the intersection and make a right turn onto Binns Hill Road and drive for ~0.4 mile and make a left turn onto Kingsley Road. Travel for ~4.3 miles to the junction of Kingsley Road with Forest Road 2600. 2) From I-84 westbound take Exit 62 and turn left onto Oak Street. Follow the remainder of the directions above.

Rountree Rouse has provided a more detailed map of Exit #62 off of I-84 which shows how to access Country Club Road. The right turn off of Oak Street is actually Mt. Adams Street and it turns into Country Club Road.

Thanks!

Had a great workout with Brian and Douglas working on the 185L Trail. Enjoy!
