4 to 5 volunteers needed for a half day project 3/2/14

Postby Tawmass » Mon Feb 24, 2014 9:28 am

For those that do not know where this is, it is right at the bridge where the pavement ends on Trask River Road (GPS: N45 25.381 W123 36.318). Dave wants to meet us at Trask County Park (just a mile or two prior) at 9am, then head on out to the Alder Trail. As off roaders, let's put on a great presence to Dave and the ODF! Please contact me if you would like to join (TawmN at AOL.com). You will want to bring good gloves, boots, water, snack and weather-dependent clothing. Many bodies make short work! This will be only a half-day's work, so let's go for a ride after! I can lead everyone on some great trails!

Turfstone weighs approximately 70 lbs per block. Enough said?

This is the trail that connects to the paved road just before the bridge. I will bring the ST240 and Turfstone. The ST240 will shape the grade so all I need are willing hands to take the Turfstone off the trailer, lay it and shovel loose soil into the blocks.

I'm on Dave H's email list, and had already signed up to work.

A ride afterwards sounds great, if I can still move after lugging the blocks around

Holy cow, what an incredible display of support for OHVs in the Tillamook Forest! There must've been around 30 people (and one dog) that showed up for this! What was supposed to take a number of hours took us only about one hour! ODF's ranger, Dave Hiatt, said that ODF can hardly get any help for non-motorized help, however we knocked it out of the park on this rainy day for motorized!

As you can tell by the photos, we had tons of help from everywhere, including what looked like almost the entire Mt. Scott Club membership! We all met at Trask County Park, went up to Alder Trail and started unloading/installing brickwork. Everyone was laughing, working, unloading brick, plus shovels and picks were flying.

Thanks again for the most incredible show of support from everyone! I will be receiving everyone's mailing info from Dave and will submit to Rocky Mountain ATV so everyone gets a $10 Race Gas Card credit.
Thanks heaps!
-Tom

Thanks to everyone who showed up on a wet & dreary day to make short work out of an otherwise big project! =D>

It's too bad the weather wasn't conducive to putting in a few miles of riding afterwards, but at least the trails are a little better off today.

Until next time . . .

Well, the weather may not have been conducive to riding afterwards, but that didn't stop 9 of the Mt. Scott guys and Luke & I from heading out from the top of the Trask Cutoff!

There was a mechanical issue with one of the bikes early on, so two guys bailed out, but the remaining 9 of us rode what felt to me a lot like the morning loop of the Devil's Head ISDE. Someone said 45 miles.

Kicked my butt! The Mt. Scott guys were nice about waiting for me  Had a great time, but got more mud in more places than I ever have before. Honestly, those are mud stains on my underwear! Even if that one downhill trail did psych me out a bit

It was a pleasure to have you. I'm glad you had a good time. The Devils Head will be much much harder :)
