UPDATE: THIS IS RESCHEDULED TO THIS SUNDAY 3/24/13!
February 24, 2013 Leroy's Logjam final trail tread rock installation
Hi guys,

Just a reminder (I will be off from 2/15 through 2/23) that I will be about ¼ mile up from the bottom of the Leroy’s Logjam Trail (unless there is a blanket of snow on the ground @ the Hwy 6 pass level) with the ST240 and our Polaris 6x6 w/dump box by 0900 on February 24,2013. Hand tools will be in the back of my truck parked near that trailhead. Bring your favorite rock spreading tools if you have them. A garden rake will work.

I have already developed an excellent rock source with the ST240 that is about ¼ up from the bottom of the trail. I will use the ST240 to load rock into the Polaris dump boxes and anything else (quads with rock boxes?)that show up with a rock hauling capability. I am also trying to get the Forest Grove Polaris 6x6 w/dump box up there that day. The OMRA will also bring their Polaris 6x6 w/dump box.

NOTE – We are NOT using the ODF tracked rock haulers as we do not need to continuously rock the remaining sections. Those heavy rock haulers would soften the sections not rocked whereas the 6x6’s will not. We will be spot rocking just the sections that need it.

I hope to see you and your buddies there that Sunday so we can finish our rock work on this trail.

A map with GPS coordinates (some of you will want to come in from the Carlton side via Ginger Creek) of the trailhead in MS XPS format is attached to this email.

Thanks,

UPDATE: DUE TO THE SUDDEN WEATHER FORECAST OF 2"-6" OF SNOW, THIS EVENT WILL BE RESCHEDULED!
Weather Alert
Winter Weather Advisory

*NOAA Issue Date: 2/22/2013 04:01:00 AM Added zone names to the headline ... ... Winter Weather Advisory now in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to 1 PM PST Saturday above 1000 feet for the north and central Oregon coast range ... And Willapa hills of southwest Washington ... The Winter Weather Advisory above 1000 feet for snow is now in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to 1 PM PST Saturday. * Timing Tonight through Saturday morning. * accumulation/snow levels ... Snow levels will lower to between 1000 and 1500 feet tonight ... Reaching to near the highway passes crossing the Oregon coast range. Snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches are expected tonight through Saturday afternoon. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities ... And use caution while driving.

This will obviously prevent volunteers from coming in via Carlton and Ginger Creek. It will also probably mean too much snow at the 1,600 foot elevation level where we need to do the work.

I will reschedule us for this work after we can get in there.

Thanks,
Dave Hiatt

It's back on again, March 24!

Guys,
Please put March 24, 2013 on your calendars as the day we will be mining rock and spot rocking the remaining sections of the Leroy’s Logjam trail that need rock. I will be there on the trail (about ¼ up from the bottom) ready to load 6x6 Polaris dump boxes. Extra hand tools for spreading rock will be in the back of my truck parked near the bottom entrance.

I would appreciate it if we can get the OMRA and the Forest Grove ODF Polaris 6x6’s up there that day.

Quads with rock boxes will also be appreciated.

We have been snowed out twice. Third time is the charm! Let’s Git’R Done! Yeah, I know the map still says 2/24 but that is because it was attached to the email below and the location has not changed.

Thanks,
Dave Hiatt

FYI, the trail work party scheduled on the OMRA Calendar for this Saturday, 3/16, is rescheduled to Sunday, 3/24. All the info above applies except note the new date - time & place are the same! See you all there!

Right click on the map.
From the menu you can save image to your computer, or print.
Have fun.....

Headed out to work on the trails with Dave Klug. Was a great day to be out ensuring our trails are in good condition! Had a great turnout from the McMinnville folks and we hauled a lot of rock to fill in plenty of soft spots.
