6/29/15 Trail/Road Clearing Off Hwy 140

Postby Tawmass » Tue Jun 30, 2015 4:04 am

Went out with a couple friends, Tiny and Willy, to volunteer on a midweek recon and clear some roads and trails that had been ravaged by windstorms. This time we were on ATVs, of which I don't have much experience, but trying something new always is fun. It's been REALLY hot in the valley, so heading up to the higher elevations was enticing. To start the day off, we had a very crabby old man in a van give us grief for parking near his van, where he was supposedly camped. No tent, no nothing, but his van, so we figured he must've been living out in the woods. Wow, was he an unhappy, angry person.

We put the hurt to some of the windfalls and fortunately had the big chainsaw. It's amazing how big the trees are down here!

When the day was done we'd logged almost 50 miles of clearing and recon. The ATV is a great vehicle for exploring and packing items on wider routes, plus the slower speeds allow you to 'smell the roses' a bit better. Now we have to head back up to do more recon on the bikes on some other trails we found!

You don't stop riding because you grow old, you grow old because you stop riding.
