Difference between GP and XC Series?

Postby p0wn » Fri Feb 17, 2017 11:11 am

Hey guys, I did a few GP races last year and I'm wondering what the difference between the GP and XC series? Are the tracks different, or is the XC just longer in length? I'm beat when I'm done with a GP race I can't imagine going for longer. Is the competition going as fast generally as the GPs?

Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated.. Thanks!

There is maybe more trees in an XC. Most GP's have a MX track and/or open ground here and there. XC's are longer by 1+ hoursfor all but the 50 &60's, women and jr.experts. There are no Jr. A,B, or C races in XC.
Trust me, my toys are MUCH bigger than yours!

Half of the XC races are ISDE format. Which is basically a long trail ride with a few short races along the way. So the actual time spent on the timed race sections (aka the special tests) is often less than an hour. But the total riding time is many hours. So most of the time you're trying to ride efficiently- ride just fast enough to stay on schedule and save energy for the special tests.

I don't think there's much difference as far as the competition. The people who are faster in short races are usually faster in long races. It's more about what kind of race you prefer. Of course you have to pace yourself; if you do it right, you will be the same level of beat at the end of any race regardless of length.
