TRAIL ACCESS GROUPS FILE NOTICE OF INTENT TO SUE AT BLM RECREATION SITE

POCATELLO, ID -  Local, state, and national trail access groups filed a 60 day Notice of Intent (NOI) to Sue for violations of the Endangered Species Act at the 50,000 acre Clear Creek Management Area (CCMA).  They charge the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with failure to actively and adequately manage off-highway vehicle use at this popular site located about 3 hours south of San Jose , California .

Groups filing the charge include; Salinas Ramblers Motorcycle Club, American Motorcyclist Association District 36, California Association of 4 Wheel Drive Clubs, California Off-Road Vehicle Association, and the BlueRibbon Coalition.

Bill Dart, executive director for the BlueRibbon Coalition, said, "The notifying organizations support responsible recreational use of public lands, and believe that ongoing vehicle access and sensitive species protection need not be mutually exclusive management goals at the CCMA."

"Unfortunately, BLM has failed to actively or adequately implement its own management goals at the Area, unlawfully subjecting vehicle-based recreationists to further and unwarranted restrictions," Dart concludes.

Paul Turcke, counsel for the BlueRibbon Legal Defense Fund, states, "I believe these groups have historically demonstrated they want to work with the BLM to better manage the site.  This NOI hopefully will inspire the agency to immediate management activity that will fully implement the governing plans already in place."

YOUR COMMENTS URGENTLY NEEDED!!

Dear Subscriber:

Anti-boating groups are trying to eliminate Personal Watercraft (PWC) from Chickasaw National Recreation Area and Gulf Island National Seashore. COMMENTS NEEDED URGENTLY!

The Chickasaw National Recreation Area (NRA) and the Gulf Island National Seashore are in the sights of some of the most radical anti-access groups in the country. The BlueWater Network has made no secret about their desire to eliminate motorized recreation in America's National Parks.

This is the same crowd that tried to ban snowmobiles from Yellowstone National Park. As a result of a 1998 petition and a lawsuit filed these radicals, the park service was forced to initiate a park specific regulation process for PWC's that could result in the elimination of motorized access to important recreational waterways.

But these waterways are perfectly appropriate for PWC use! The Chickasaw NRA is located just south of the town of Sulphur, Oklahoma. At 90 miles south of Oklahoma City, and 120 miles north of Dallas, its one of the most valued recreational boating destinations in this part of the country. Similarly, the Gulf Island National Seashore stretches 160 miles from Cat Island in Mississippi to the eastern tip of Santa Rosa Island in Florida represents a wonderful boating opportunity.

Just like at Yellowstone, the anti-boating radicals think they can manipulate public input into these rulemakings so that they may engineer a complete ban of PWC's in these areas. Don't let them get away with it!

The regulation process is in a critical stage. The Chickasaw NRA's deadline is May 10, 2004 and the Gulf Island Seashore's deadline is May 24, 2004. Please help BlueRibbon defend responsible PWC use. YOUR COMMENTS ARE NEEDED TODAY!

Tell the Park Service that PWC enthusiasts have every right to access on public waters, just like everybody else. BRC's Rapid Response Center makes it easy. Click on the address below and follow the instructions to send your comments to the park service.
