Central Oregon has new ATV Sticker and Spark Arrester Rules

Last week, Forest Orders were signed on the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests that require ATV stickers on all Class I, II, and III ATVs operated anywhere on the forests. The Orders also require spark arresters on Class I, II, and III ATVs year round. Up to now, spark arresters have only been requred on the forests from April 1 to October 30, however, they're required year round on the BLM. Riders that ride on the BLM one weekend and ride on the National Forest the next, had two different sets of rules.

Under Oregon Statute 821.195, individual land management agencies must designate whether ATV stickers are required in order to operate ATVs on public lands administered by the respective agency. It could be confusing to the public if ATV stickers were required on one part of the forest, but not on another part of the forest. The new Orders will make us consistent between the agencies, and will help our customers know what is required and when. If you have any questions, please contact COHVOPS Coordinator Dick Dufourd.
